Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) is delighted to have secured a £240,000 grant award from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for replacement Fire Doors, on top of a £30,000 grant for the programme received earlier this year from the Army Benevolent Fund.
The generous £270,000 support will make a significant difference to the charity as it undertakes a £700,000 spend on essential Fire Door works at its 85-bed Edinburgh residence Whitefoord House; Dundee site Rosendael (44 rooms); and at a small number of flats SVR lets in Gilmerton, Edinburgh.
SVR is among 19 organisations who will share £4.5 million thanks to funding from the Office for Veterans’ Affairs’ Veterans’ Capital Housing Fund, administered by the AFCFT. The awards cover England, Scotland and Wales and contribute to the Government’s ambition to reduce veteran homelessness and end rough sleeping.
Nine grants have been awarded under the Major Capital Grants programme, which supports new build accommodation and significant refurbishment and extension of accommodation for veterans. A further 10 supplementary grants - including SVR - have been awarded to existing projects. These latest awards bring the total awarded through this programme to over £12.5 million.
The impact of these awards extends beyond just providing safe, secure homes to veterans in need – it’s also about building supportive communities and empowering independent lives.

Minister for Veterans and People, Louise Sandher-Jones MP (pictured above), said: “Every veteran deserves a safe, secure place to call home. That’s not just a moral obligation – it’s a promise this Government is determined to keep. Today marks another significant step towards delivering the Prime Minister’s pledge to provide homes fit for our heroes across the United Kingdom.
“We’re delivering real change through the Veterans’ Capital Housing Fund and it was fantastic to see first-hand how these homes are providing veterans and their families with the security and support they need.”
Anna Wright, Chief Executive of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, explains: “These awards will provide more than just homes – they’re offering a lifeline of support and stability to veterans and their families when they need it the most, helping to set them on a pathway to a more positive future.”
