Please support our campaign to restore the SVR Memorial at Eastern Cemetery
Thank you for your kind interest in PROJECT HERITAGE: Scottish Veterans Residences’ 2025 campaign to restore our charity’s monument and memorial to former Servicemen, situated in Eastern Cemetery, Easter Road, Edinburgh.
The campaign, which launched in April, has had tremendous backing and we have managed to raise more than £35,000 of the £40,000 required to fund the project. We held a rededication ceremony at the restored Memorial on 14 October.

The important historic memorial in Edinburgh honours and remembers many of the first Veterans to have lived in Whitefoord House, from SVR’s creation in 1910. The sight of funeral processions leaving Whitefoord House in the Canongate for Eastern Cemetery was a common one in those early years of SVR, as men who had served in a variety of Regiments, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, were buried with full military honours.
The handsome memorial, which stand 2 metres high and spans 7 metres, is a prominent feature of the cemetery, but had fallen into a state of disrepair. With your support and donations we were able to enlist conservation experts to restore it to its former glory. Now people can continue to pay their respects to these brave men who served their country and lived out their final years as respected Veterans at Whitefoord House.
