SVR residents revel in Highland fling

Residents from across all three of Scottish Veterans Residences' sites joined together on a residential trip to Lochgoilhead in Argyll, and enjoyed a memorable experience.

Accompanied by SVR's Join In Live Well Officer Darren Morgan, and Whitefoord-based Housing Assistant Mark Doig, six of our Veterans headed north for a week of fresh air, activities and spectacular Highlands scenery. The weather was typical of a Scottish summer (i.e. a very mixed bag!) and the midges did their best to gatecrash, but it didn't detract from a really good trip.

Darren said: "The residents were very thankful of the visit and all thoroughly enjoyed the varied activities. We had two Veterans each from Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh on this trip, and it was good to see them mixing so well with other residents who they had not met before. Lots of stories were told around the barbecue on the final night and overall it was a great trip."

Over the three full days they had, the guys tried out a nine-hole golf course, went for a few local hillwalks, headed out on to the water for some sea fishing, and explored the area on bikes.

After the success of this venture, further trips are planned, including a trip to Crathie on Royal Deeside at the end of October, in partnership with Crathie Opportunity Holidays.
