Op Cairngorms delivers another woodland wonderland

Veterans from SVR’s Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow residences got together to share another wonderful woodland experience at Operation Cairngorms in Tarland, Aberdeenshire.
So impressed were our Activities team with the last residential at Op Cairngorm in 2025, that arrangements were quickly made to return with a new group, and yet again expectations were well and truly exceeded.
Operation Cairngorm is Veteran-owned and operated, helping individuals reset, reconnect, and rediscover their potential in 50-acres of ancient woodland.

Accompanied by our Activities duo Darren Morgan and James Williams, the 10-strong SVR group enjoyed the outdoor life and slept under the stars in yurts, bull tents and hammocks. Activities included an early-morning swim, walks, tree felling, wood carving, knot tying and axe-throwing.
Darren said: “This residential proved that re-connecting with the outdoors and learning news skills is key for so many. There were some great discussions around the campfire, which was nicknamed the Outdoor TV!
“It was another great visit with positive feedback all-round from the residents. They wanted to stay longer! The weather was chilly but, we all coped well and embraced living in the outdoors again. The cold water dook on the first morning certainly woke everyone up.”

Some of the feedback from residents included:
- “This was my first time away on a residential trip. I struggle with my confidence and meeting people, but this has got me out of my comfort zone and it’s been brilliant.”
- “My eyes have been opened to the outdoors. There’s been a sense of communion in getting together round the fire and having a chat. I’ve enjoyed the activities and the wildlife we’ve seen, especially the pine martins, badgers and deer. I’ve had a great time, it’s been fantastic.”
Our sincere thanks to Stuart Wright of Op Cairngorms for hosting us, and to our friends at the charity Vector 24 for helping with transport.
