Richard Edlmann named 12th Chair of Scottish Veterans Residences

A new Chair of Scottish Veterans Residences will be officially announced at the next meeting of the Governing Body, as Jonathan Tweedie makes a planned hand over to the current Vice Chair Richard Edlmann.
Ahead of the 25 September Governing Body meeting, Mr Tweedie (pictured left) and Mr Edlmann (right) were received at Kensington Palace and had an audience with SVR’s Patron In Chief, His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester, to begin the formal process.
Mr Edlmann, who will become the 12th chair in the charity’s 116-year history, said: “I was honoured to have been received by our Patron-in-Chief, HRH The Duke of Gloucester at Kensington Palace on the occasion of my taking over the role of Chairman of Scottish Veterans Residences from Jonathan Tweedie.
“SVR changes and saves lives every single day, helping those who were prepared to give everything for their country, and Jon is to be greatly thanked for his wise counsel and firm hand on the tiller over the last few years, and for his much longer service as a Trustee on the Governing Body. I am looking forward to working closely with Martin Nadin and his incredible team in the years to come.”
Mr Tweedie, who has served as Chair since September 2023, said:
“It has been a privilege to lead the Board through a period of real change and intense strategic planning, all with one goal in mind: ensuring this remarkable organisation is set and secure to keep supporting Veterans in need for many years to come. SVR does extraordinary work providing homes, support and a genuine sense of community to those who have served their country through our military services or with the Merchant Navy.
This progress does not happen without an excellent team, and I would like to thank the Chief Executive, Martin Nadin and his magnificent team whose dedication and support have been unwavering throughout. I am particularly proud of the strength and depth that we have built on the Board, a group of individuals who bring real expertise, genuine commitment and passion to this cause.
I will be staying on the Board to help provide Richard with continuity, while we work to identify a successor with the right blend of skills and experience. Please do reach out if you might want to be a part of this important and necessary organisation. SVR thrives because great people give freely of their time and energy.”
SVR is also delighted to announce that Governing Body member Teresa Griffiths, who served as a Group Captain in the RAF, has been appointed Vice-Chair.
