Bill, 72 years old, has been a resident at Rosendael for the past nine years. He lived in Arbroath before coming to Rosendael. Bill served in the Royal Navy for fourteen years, joining as a Boy Seaman aged 15 in 1948. He saw service mainly with the Mediterranean Fleet leaving as an LSM and a qualified navy diver in 1962.
"My family had a tradition of serving with the Black Watch so it was something of a shock when I said I was joining the navy."
After leaving the navy Bill worked for many years as a machine tool setter with Northern Tool & Gear in Arbroath retiring through ill health in 1986. "After the death of my wife in 1990 I lived alone but it was becoming difficult to manage on my own and it was lonely".
"I found out about Rosendael through my local British Legion branch and went along for a visit. I liked the community atmosphere, the independence and the fact that all the local amenities are close at hand. I have my own en-suite room and have filled it with some of my own personal furniture. Max, the manager, and his staff are very helpful and respect your privacy but are on hand when you need them."
